MACKESY WINS BUILD FROM THE HEART 75 PRESENTED BY NEWSLINE NINE
Great side by side racing all night long
Wausau, WI – Mark Mackesy found victory lane for the Build from the Heart 75 presented by Newsline Nine Thursday night.  It marks the first win for the Wausau regular in over a year.  “I just have really great people who help me on this car,” says Mark Mackesy, “Tom Ress spends so much time on the car and helping get it right, it’s just nice to come here and run well.  Yesterday was his birthday, so it’s just special to win today.”

Jason Weinkauf stared on the pole for the 75-lap super late model feature and jumped out to the early lead.  About ten laps in, Keith Bohmsach closed in on the #76 of Weinkauf and maneuvered around him to take point.

With 41 laps to go Neil Knoblock brought out the first caution of the race and three laps later Weinkauf found his way around Bohmsach to take the lead again.  But behind the leaders it was the #12 of Mark Mackesy making his way through the field.  Mackesy, who started 9th, restarted 4th and worked his way up one more position before the caution flew with 35 laps to go.

Weinkauf, on point, jumped out to the lead on the restart, while Mackesy cleared Bohmsach for the second spot.  Mackesy’s #12 then closed in on Weinkauf ahead and with 14 to go the two were racing side by side for the lead when the caution flew again.  Officials said Mackey crossed the line first on the last lap, making him the new leader.

Mackesy and Weinkauf once again battled side by side for the lead on the restart and right behind them the #36 of Mark Eswein suddenly made a move in to third and eyed the top two.  Mackesy gained the lead and Eswein was right there to slide in to second.  Eswein’s #36 closed on Mackesy and with five to go the two were side by side for the top spot.

With just three laps to go Jeremy Lepak was sent spinning and five cars were involved in an incident on the front stretch, bringing out the caution and setting the stage for a great finish.

Mackesy held the lead on the restart and held off a charging Eswein to win the first State Park Speedway race of the 2011.  Eswin took second, Weinkauf held on for third, Tim Sauter finished fourth and Jay vanDerGeest fifth.

The super stock feature came down to the final few laps as well.  It took fast timer Lyle Nowak just six laps to make his way to the front.  While he put it on cruise control, Mike Gwidt was busy making his way to the front as well.

A caution with eight laps to go put Gwidt side by side with Nowak for the restart, but the #36 of Nowak held the lead and stayed in front of Gwidt.  Another restart with five to go closed the gap again, but Nowak’s #36 was able to hold off Gwidt for the win.

Ken Schram dominated the pure stock feature.  Not only did he claim fast time and a heat win, but he completed the sweep by leading green to checkers, winning by half a straightaway.

It took Phil Malouf just five laps to make his way to the front in the Snap-On Mini Mod feature, but shortly after he had a mirror full of the 2010 SPS point champion, Adam Eckes.  The two raced side by side for the lead for nearly eight laps.

While the leaders were side by side Chad Dietsche closed in to make it a three way battle for the top spot.  Eckes cleared for the lead with five to go and held off a charging Dietsche to take the win.  Malouf finished third.
