Eyes Possible $16,000 Pay Day in Auto Select Triple X Challenge

Wausau, WI - There will be a lot of eyes on Mark Mackesy Saturday night for Newsline Nine Detjens Memorial 150, which headlines the Miller Lite Detjens Memorial Weekend presented by Budget Auto, and also marks the second race of the Auto Select Triple X Challenge. Mackesy put himself in the catbird seat for a possible $16,000 pay day when he won the Ropa’s Pizza Flip Merwin Memorial on June 20th. If his #12 car can find River Valley Bank Victory Lane for the Newsline Nine Detjens Memorial and the Lodi Memorial races he takes home a $16,000 check. “Every year this is our biggest race of the year,” says Mark Mackesy, “So I’m just going into this one thinking of it as the Detjens Memorial, which is a big deal by itself. We aren’t changing our approach at all. If we can win this one then we’ll start thinking about the Triple X Challenge and the possibility of taking home a huge payday. There are a lot of great racers coming this weekend and it’s going to be tough to win.”

Mackesy is a three time winner of the Newsline Nine Detjens Memorial and also the defending race winner. “To win the 150-lap race you need to have a good set-up on your car and be patient,” says Mackesy, “You aren’t going to win anything on lap one. A little luck doesn’t hurt either.”
This race also means a lot personally to Mackesy as his wife, Margo Detjens, is Larry’s daughter. Juggling the biggest race of the year along with the talk of the Auto Select Triple X Challenge as well as all the emotion that goes in to this race can take a lot of energy. “I just try and focus on the racecar,” says Mackesy, “With family and friends coming in to town and now that it’s a huge two-day event it can be overwhelming, but once I’m at the track and in the car all I think about is the race.”

Besides a possibly $16,000 pay day for Mackesy, there are other possible bonuses within the Auto Select Triple X Challenge format. By finishing in the top 12 in the Ropa’s Pizza Flip Merwin Memorial Mark Mackesy, Tim Sauter, Nathan Haseleu, Neil Knoblock, Jeremy Lepak, Ben Pettis, Jay VanDerGeest, Austin Luedtke, Jesse Haase, Chris Wimmer, Mike Olson and MG Gajewski are eligible for a bonus of $1,000, $750 and $500. The drivers who finish in the top six of the before mentioned 12 drivers will remain eligible for the bonus at the Lodi Memorial on August 22nd. Then, the top three drivers of those six will receive the bonus money.
