There is a new full frame series in Central Wisconsin thanks to local track announcer Branden Aschenbrener and the late Dave Lashua. The goal is simple, to create a traveling series for the Pure Stock division, but open it up to full frame cars, and give those drivers a chance to travel and compete for a series title in addition to a track title.
Hence the Central Wisconsin Steel Frame Challenge Series was born. The series consists of six races, two at each of the Central Wisconsin tracks of State Park Speedway, Golden Sands Speedway and Marshfield Motor Speedway.
“Dave and I and a few others that attended the Trackside Live radio shows and got to talking about doing a special challenge to get Pure Stock drivers from our area and outside the area to want to go to other tracks, like Marshfield and Plover,” Aschenbrenner told Speed51.com powered by JEGS. “I listened to their pitch and came up with three options on how we could make it happen and when the option was decided upon, it was to have a special challenge series of six races, two at each Central Wisconsin track. The goal is to create a little extra purse money for the Pure Stocks that weekly put on some of, if not the best weekly racing.”
Unfortunately Lashua passed away unexpectedly on December 5th, 2016 and will not see the series he dreamed about come to fruition. Lashua was a mainstay in the Pure Stock division at State Park Speedway since 2011, never finishing outside the top-ten in points.
“Dave was very instrumental in securing sponsorship and driver dedication and also was a huge support to keep pushing me to make this series as successful as possible,” said Aschenbrenner. “After his passing, I knew it would make it harder, especially doing all the sponsor work and information together on my own. But at the same time, the conviction of the other drivers to support the series in honor of Dave went through the roof. Dave was one of those down to earth love everyone kind of guy and hence everyone loved him in return.”
The response from local Pure Stock drivers has been great and the Central Wisconsin Steel Frame Challenge Series thinks its inaugural season will be a success. An overall champion will be crowned and the series has put together a strong point fund to award its drivers.
“The payout scale is beyond awesome,” said Aschenbrenner. “With the sponsorship secured that we have right now, and no money being kept, its 100% going back to the drivers, we are looking at over $1,000 going to the champion, over $800 to the runner-up and over $600 to third. We will also pay well down through the rest of the drivers as well.”
The Central Wisconsin Full Frame Challenge Series visits Marshfield Motor Speedway on June 10th and September 9th, State Park Speedway on June 29th and August 17th and Golden Sands Speedway on July 7th and September 22nd. These will be regular race night at each respective track with the Pure Stocks who are competing in the series earning points for the track and the series.
