Brickner Picks up First SLM Win at SPS
By: Brandon Aschenbrenner

The annual Fighting Cancer Full Throttle night at State Park Speedway always draws in fans and many fund raisers take place for some great charities. Also, Gifts from Heaven, put on by the WCAR, produced over fifty bikes and to be given away to kids in attendance. This is another annual tradition that ends with pretty much every kid taking home a bike. The weather threw a little wrench into plans, as no qualifying was run. Instead the line ups were completed by point standings.

In the Green Mill Super Late Models presented by C-Tech, Mike Olson took the win in the heat. In the feature, Justin Mondeik led early and picked up the win in the first twenty lap segment. Yellow flew and right back to racing we went and Mark Mackesy took the top spot from Mondeik soon after the restart. Segment two would close out with Mackesy in first and Jerry Brickner sitting second. The third and last twenty lap segment saw a natural caution with thirteen laps left. Contact between Jay VanDerGeest and Olson sent both spinning in turn two. On the restart, Mackesy and Brickner lined up on the inside lane and were set to battle it out for the win. Dalton Zehr was lurking back in third, but could not put enough pressure on Mackesy for him to make a mistake. Jerry Brickner would prevail tonight and made his way to victory lane. Mackesy and Zehr finished second and third with Derek Kraus and Mondeik taking top fives. MG Gajewski was able to maintain his point lead, but Brickner is now only thirty-six points out.
